Rose class blog 2016
Final event of the year. Good luck to all going in to second class, it's been a massive pleasure. Have a great summer!
We went out to check on our plot today and found that our radishes and spinach was ready for picking. We washed the spinach and had a taste. It was delicious!
Reminder about wonderful Intercultural Day that takes place this Friday 26th May! We will be kicking things off with an Intercultural Breakfast for all the parents - so please join us and bring along your favourite breakfast foods from around the world at 8.30am in the hall! Afterwards, parents will be treated to performances from classes; displays of project work and a colourful parade of the whole school community wearing their county colours or country dress! We cannot wait for everyone to join us for this fantastic celebration of our amazing Intercultural school community!
The PTA are organising a Sponsored Fun Walk on Thursday 18th of May, during the Walk to School Week.
Donation: €1 per child
The PTA are using money raised to provide some refreshments at the 6th class graduation evening in June.
Please make sure your child comes to school with a coat and is wearing runners. Extra food and water should be included in their lunch bags.
Parents are welcome to join us on the walk.
During Intercultural May, we are planning to have a Powerstown World Music radio where songs from different countries will be played throughout the school. If your family would like to request a song, please send an audio/ Youtube link to Elaine at firstname.lastname@example.org, including your child's name and class. Alternatively, you can hand your written request into the office. We would appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that all lyrics are appropriate for our pupils.
Thank you - we look forward to hearing all your musical requests!
Every day in the Rose Class we have DEAR time. DEAR, or 'drop everything and read' is an allotted time in the day where everyone gets their book to read for 10 sustained, focussed minutes. As the weather was so nice today, we took our books outside to read before we went to PE with Larry!
This week we have been learning about the Titanic. In history we listened to the story of the ship from the ship yard to the disaster in the Atlantic. In art we discussed sea pollution, waterproofing and buoyancy and designed and made floating, waterproof boats from plastic bottles, duct tape and cardboard. In geography we looked at global climates and discussed how the Titanic must have been travelling in a sub polar area in order to collide with an ice berg.
